Kirin Dimsum, Vancouver
Sunday, January 6, 2013

Kirin restaurant, a fine dining chinese restaurant chain in Vancouver, has been serving some of the best dim sum in the city for as long as I can remember.

When I had some friends visiting Vancouver, I brought them here as a nice alternative to brunch. I think for the 4 of us, we had ordered a little bit too much food. But, everyone enjoyed it and it kept us full for a day of sight-seeing.

Top Shanghai Cuisine, Vancouver
Sunday, January 6, 2013

Over the past few years, there’s been a sudden surge of Shanghainese restaurants in Vancouver. Now when I visit home and have family dinners, it’s almost always shanghainese food. Generally speaking it’s inexpensive, flavourful, (though sometimes I find over-seasoned) and the portions are suitable for large tables.

Homesick for Sushi: Sushi Hachi, Ajisai Sushi Bar, Toshi Sushi, Maruwa Sushi, Vancouver
Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Though sushi is one of my favourite foods, it’s one that I don’t eat often. I’m going to try and hold off on my craving for sushi while I’m in Paris until I’m back home. Unless I’m starving on a desert island, I’ll never eat sushi from a food court, grocery store, or worst of all, at an all-you-can-eat restaurant (I’ll make an exception if it’s your birthday).

My favourite ramen shops in Vancouver: Motomachi Shokudo and Santouka
Monday, November 19, 2012

Here’s a post dedicated to one of my favourite noodles: ramen. On a normal day, I’d be satisfied with Kintaro, the decade-old ramen shop on Denman Street that was the first of its kind to open in downtown Vancouver. But if you’re only in Vancouver for a quick visit, then I recommend heading to it’s sister restaurant around the corner, Motomachi Shokudo.

Maenam, Vancouver
Monday, November 5, 2012

Thanks to a family friend, I discovered this authentic Thai restaurant, Maenam in Vancouver that uses quality ingredients to create their flavourful dishes. It brought me back memories of eating at Salad King and Thai Basil when I used to live in Toronto. It’s especially comforting to have hot and spicy food in the middle of a frozen winter.

The Sardine Can, Vancouver
Monday, October 29, 2012

After a visit to Cartems Donuterie in Gastown, my friends and I stumbled upon a Spanish inspired tapas-styled restaurant called The Sardine Can. It’s opened by Andrey Durbach and Chris Stewart who also operate La Buca, Pied-a-Terre and Cafeteria.

My first week working at Fauchon, Paris
Wednesday, October 17, 2012

After taking a very long break from working, I’m finally back in a professional kitchen! I started my 3-month internship on October 1st at Fauchon, Paris. Though it was a bit hard in the first week to adjust to my 5:30am alarm clock, my first two weeks have been quite enjoyable.
