Birthday Dinner at Restaurant Au Passage, Paris
Sunday, June 10, 2012

Back in April, we celebrated laughing goat’s birthday at restaurant Au Passage. It’s a casual french tapas place in the 11th arrondissement, hidden in-between apartment buildings on a quiet back alleyway. It might seem like an odd location for a restaurant but it’s a fitting backdrop for the relaxed and retro interior.

For dinner, they have a selection of 10-12 tapas priced at €7-9 per plate. They recommend about 3 plates per person to be shared amongst the table. Since we were a table of 8 that evening, we ordered everything on the menu except for the steak and lamb shoulder. Bon Appétit!

The menu that evening (april 2012).

Carpaccio de mulet noir. Raw mullet fish dressed in olive oil and spices, with pickled onion. I'm not sure if they're the same, but it taste very similar to hamachi.

Green salad with walnuts

Brandade de lieu jaune. A pollock and potato mash .

Carottes rôties et ricotta salata. Roasted colourful carrots with shaved ricotta salata. The roasted carrots were nicely caramelized, drawing out its natural sweetness. Very tasty.

Oeufs pochés asperges pecorino. Roasted asparagus with shaved pecorino, to be enjoyed with a beautifully poached egg.

The 'sauce' for the roasted asparagus.

Bonite oignon et radis. Raw skipjack (tuna) with a caramelized onion puree.

Terrine canard et pistache. This was our least favourite dish of the evening.

Tartare de boeuf.

Poitrine de porc tapenade et broccolis. Very well crisped pork belly.

Ris d'agneau navets et radis glacés. Caramelized sweetbreads and radishes.

Burrata. All I can remember was that it was delicious.

Dessert #1: Mousse de bergamotte et ricotta di buffala.

Dessert #2: Ganache au chocolat et caramel beurre sale. Very smooth.

Finally, thanks to all of you for your e-mails and kind wishes on my recovery. I’m happy to report that my hand is almost fully recovered. I just need to practice getting my full grip back which will take some time.
